VeriTrade revolutionize matured market with best know-how and modern technology

Built on cutting-edge microservices architecture, VeriTrade offers ultra-low latency, high performance, and extensive business functionality.

In this interview, we sit down with business analysts Pernilla Schierman and Erik Hennix, who were involved in the development of Vermiculus' newly launched trading system, VeriTrade. They discuss how the system’s architecture and flexibility create competitive advantages for the customer, and why tailored business functionality is increasingly essential to meet specific regulatory and market needs.

Erik Hennix and Pernilla Schierman, Business Analysts at Vermiculus

Q: Hi Erik and Pernilla! You’ve both worked with marketplace technology for over a decade. What do you see as the biggest difference in designing a trading system for a marketplace today compared to when you first started?

Pernilla: Low latency has gone from being the main focus when developing trading systems to becoming a standard feature. What we now see is that customers are prioritizing having the right functionality for their unique business.

Erik: Today’s fast-moving environment has led to the importance of having a flexible system that complies with ever-changing regulations and profits from emerging business opportunities. Tailored business functionality is the way forward.

Q: Why is it important for customers to have a system tailored to their specific needs rather than adapting to an off-the-shelf product?

Erik: It’s essential for meeting the specific needs of a market. A tailored system enables customers to create competitive advantages in order to maintain and grow their market share.  This can often be a challenge with off-the-shelf and legacy systems.

Pernilla: The right business functionality is also crucial for regulatory alignment. Systems that provide for tailor-made solutions, such as VeriTrade, allow customers to seamlessly integrate new functionality, making it easier for them to adapt to changes in regulatory frameworks and ensure that the system evolves with their business as it grows.

Q: How would you describe VeriTrade's ability to adapt to the unique requirements of its clients?

Pernilla: VeriTrade has a solid foundation in the VeriPrimer™ platform, which is built on a microservice architecture. The design allows for easy customization and extension based on customer requirements. The architecture not only simplifies updates but also supports evolving business needs.

Erik: The Vermiculus approach of combining our proprietary platform with industry-standard third-party software is unique. This enables us to focus on delivering exactly what the customer needs.

Q: What types of customers is VeriTrade designed for?

Erik: VeriTrade supports all asset classes and trading models. Its scalable architecture makes it fit any size of business.

Furthermore, VeriTrade is designed to support virtually unlimited functional richness with zero impact on performance. This is achieved by a dual-zone architecture where ultra-low latency components, such as the matching engine, is separated from other medium latency components handling things like instrument data, members and user data etc.

This allows for the flexibility and performance to support any markets, asset classes and huge amounts of reference data all in one single trading system.

Pernilla: The system architecture is developed as a stand-alone trading system but is designed for easy integration with any existing or new client systems. It can also be seamlessly combined with other Vermiculus products, such as those supporting clearing, risk and CSD functionality, creating a powerful extended system.

Q: What excites you the most about working with VeriTrade as business analysts?

Pernilla: Applying the many decades of combined experience within the VFT team to deliver a truly state-of-the-art trading system. Our modern architecture allows us to innovate and provide cutting-edge solutions that help our clients become market leaders.

Erik: The opportunity to meet customers and understand the many different marketplaces’ needs and challenges and then to work as a team to not only meet but exceed our customers' expectations of what a trading system can be.

VeriTrade represents a significant advancement in trading technology, positioned to meet diverse needs in a rapidly changing financial market. As Pernilla and Erik emphasized, the commitment to tailored solutions ensures that customers are equipped with a system that evolves alongside their business.
